How are user statistics computed and how do I verify that they are correct?

User statistics are computed to keep track of how much space a user is consuming on the mailserver. However, you cannot verify this by simply computing all of the space consumed in the mailstore for that user. Only the eml files under the #msgs folders are used to calculate user statistics.

The commands in this document work on Linux, OSX, or Windows with Cygwin installed.

You can compute user statistics as follows:

If this does not match up with the statistics for that user in the admin console, it is possible one of the subfolders is not indexed properly, or the stats.usr file needs to be rebuilt. You can do the following, but it will lose flag information for all folders:
