Check for this obvious error message (in the error log)

If you have Entourage users, check for an error like this:

If you see this, it is bug 11466. Actually, it is a bug in Entourage 2004 with no patches applied. The problem is quite complicated. Entourage 2004 would rename folders with a name like "under_score" to "under_x005F_x005F_x005F_score" and then keep repeating on the new underscore characters until the name is too long for the output buffer. Entourage persists in doing the renames causing KMS to go to 100% CPU.

The fix: upgrade Entourage for the user "joeuser" as shown in the error message. Manually navigate into the message store and rename the folder back to the correct name, then resync Entourage.

Duplicate contacts

Contacts processing can cause high load on the mailserver process. Since many mail programs do not show duplicate contacts, you may have a huge number of duplicate contacts, but not even know it. Check the Contacts/#msgs folders for all of your users to see if anyone has an unreasonable number of contacts.

Check for the duplicate ATTENDEE bug
